The ability to distinguish between two separate things. Eye muscles need to move independently of neck muscles. This enables a person to follow an object or a line of print using just their eyes and not moving their head. Differentiation is also needed when printing because the finger muscles need to move while the wrist stays still. For efficient printing, the eyes must be differentiated from the head and neck, and the fingers must be differentiated from the wrist.
