A therapy ball (or exercise ball) is readily available commercially. In OT, we use the appropriately sized ball as a “round chair” and not a toy. Children and adults who sit on the round chair immediately notice that their posture improves. The round, dynamic, rolling surface continually offers data to the brain regarding how gravity is operating on their body and what muscles they need to activate on a moment-by-moment basis. Although it sounds like a lot of work, people generally feel more comfortable using the round chair than a standard chair. Therapy balls are becoming office solutions for adults, too.
